The Alpine V6 Turbo GTA, type D501, is an underrated gem from the late 1980s – a French alternative to the classic GTs of the time, with a distinctive design and a serious technical base. This 1988 example, finished in original Bleu Alpine, is a rare sight that fully embodies the unique spirit of the Alpine brand.

The GTA was developed as the successor to the A310 and positioned itself as a full-fledged Grand Tourer, combining the comfort of a coupé with the performance of a sports car. The car has a rear-mounted 2.5-liter V6 turbo engine, delivering 200 hp and a top speed of 250 km/h. Thanks to its low weight of just under 1200 kg and a streamlined polyester body, it offered performance that at the time could easily rival Porsche and Ferrari.

Although some examples bear a ‘Design by Giugiaro’ badge on the dashboard, the GTA was in fact designed by Alpine’s internal team under the direction of Jean-Jacques Chanéac. The result is a clean, purposeful design with excellent aerodynamics and a striking low roofline – typical of the French school of functional design.

Thanks to its rear-wheel drive, low center of gravity and manual gearbox, this is a true driver’s car. The interior is functional and full of character, with deep-set dials and sporty bucket seats, completely in line with its era.

The Alpine V6 Turbo GTA is today a rare and rapidly appreciating classic, loved by enthusiasts who appreciate engineering, driving pleasure and history. This example, in original condition and with correct details, is a unique opportunity to acquire a characterful, stylish and authentic Alpine – with motorsport genes and French flair.

This Alpine was imported to Belgium in 2019 and at that time received a Belgian COC from Renault. It still has the original cassette deck and black leather interior.

This Alpine V6 Turbo GTA is in good, original and unrestored condition, which is rare for a model of this age. The body is largely original and presents well, with traces of normal use as expected from a classic from the 1980s.

The paint shows visible signs of use and some damage, but still presents reasonably. The underside is in honest, original condition, uncleaned and unpolished – a plus for those who value authenticity.

The interior is original and shows signs of normal use. The carpets are used, with signs of wear, but match the character of the car.

Mechanically, there are a few points that require attention. The engine shows an oil leak and the ignition needs inspection; a technical check and adjustment are therefore recommended for smooth operation.

The clutch, gearbox and brakes function properly. The handbrake works, but requires adjustment. The electrical system is largely functional (horn, wipers, heating, dashboard), although the reverse lights do not work and some lenses are cracked. Door handles need to be checked on the inside and the electric windows move slowly.

In summary, this is an honest, original example with character and potential, which after some technical refreshment deserves its place back on the road – or as an interesting base for a light restoration. Ideal for the enthusiast looking for an unfiltered, authentic Alpine GTA with presence.
